My brother teaches ESL. One of his students joined us for Thanksgiving. She is from Colombia. We had the following exchange:

"Your son, he has the most beautiful eyes.

"Thank you.

"What's his name?"

"Joaquin."

"How do you spell that?"

"J-O-A-Q-U-I-N."

"In Spanish, we also have a name spelled like that. But it sounds different."

"Oh, it's the same name. I just have a French accent."
