If you are using someone’s photographic work for a book, you pay them for it if you can. At the very least you offer them a copy of the published work. If your publisher is not providing X number of copies free to give to contributors, you negotiated poorly and don’t understand how free copies equal book promotion. If you slag off someone for asking you for this stuff when you’ve used their work, you’re an asshole. It is this kind of shit that contributes to artists being undervalued and I will not have that shit.
